The history of the first Byggfakta Group company dates back to 1936, when Byggnadsupplysningar (Byggfakta) was established in Stockholm, Sweden. During the 1970’s, parts of the operations were moved to Ljusdal, and the head office eventually also moved to Ljusdal in 1985.

The company was acquired by Thomson International in 1988 and then sold to Segulah and Sture Wigart in 1996. In 2000 the company was acquired by Reed Business Information and in 2009 Docu Group gained ownership of Byggfakta. The current business structure has operated in its present form since 2014 when Docu Group was divided into two units, one unit operating in the German-speaking countries and one Nordic unit acquired by Segulah.

Stirling Square entered as owners in 2017 and Byggfakta Group has since undergone rapid geographic and financial expansion through a combination of organic growth and strategic acquisitions. Between 2014 and 2019, the old Byggfakta Group consolidated and strengthened its Nordic presence and established its market leadership. In 2019 the old Byggfakta Group began its European expansion and completed acquisitions in Slovakia and Czech Republic. During 2020, in connection with TA Associates acquisition of part of the group from Stirling Square, the company and its subsidiaries was established as holding companies. The Company acquired the old Byggfakta Group and Byggfakta Group in its current form was formed.

During 2020 and 2021, Byggfakta Group expanded in Europe through acquisitions of operations in the United Kingdom, Portugal, Spain and Switzerland, and has thus become a prominent European player with several product offerings. The Group has also entered into agreements to acquire INFO-TECHNO Baudatenbank in Austria and BCI, which will lead to an increased presence in Australia, New Zealand, Asia and the USA.
